La Bella Resistance … and how I do what I need to anyway

Day One

This is my first entry in a blog dedicated to RESISTANCE

I have always been resistant in one particular area of my life: The entrepreneurial — business — end of showbiz (an absolutely necessary aspect of our acting life).

And now I’m girding my loins and facing it full on. Maybe you have some of the same misgivings … if so, welcome to my journey.

I am blogging from my first step in vanquishing my resistance. Today I am going back to kindergarten. Today (in a couple of minutes, actually) I am going to a workshop that focuses on show business as a business. And I vow to bring you along as I actually take the steps necessary (not just learn from experts what steps I should take … but actually take them) and start to create the simple, effective, flexible, enjoyable, ego-syntonic (wonderful psychoanalytic term meaning it jives with my self-image) self-marketing system that will become so habitual it’ll become a mindless, innocuous (maybe even enjoyable sometimes) activity — like brushing my teeth.

I vow that I will no longer bow to whatever resistance I have to this process. I will plunge ahead — regardless of the internal slings and arrows that will assault me — because it’s the right thing to do, without attention to results, and because having a regular disciplined approach to myself as an actress will keep me grounded and realistic in this business of dreams. Moreover, I will take the time to celebrate the results when they come, rather than just aiming for the next goal.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Now, I have to get on the subway and attend that workshop. Back tomorrow with a report.

That’s lovely to hear, Corinne! Thanks. I’ve been dwelling inside LBR (La Bella Resistance!) for the ages since my last post. Letting distraction seduce me. But a comment such as yours (especially because you’re a total stranger) gives me an excellent boost. If I write even one more post, it’ll be because of you!
